HIGHLAND PARK, Texas (AP) — Preliminary autopsy results indicate suicide as what killed a man who apparently stabbed his wife before taking his own life in a wealthy Dallas enclave.
A Highland Park police statement Thursday says John Rodman Steele died of a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest early Wednesday.
Police say Dina Steele was wounded while trying to protect herself. She called 911 to report she awoke to find her husband stabbing her and himself.
Police say the couple's 16-year-old son tried to help his mother. The teen and his 12-year-old sister weren't injured. Both also called 911 to summon help.
Dina Steele was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where she was treated for non-life-threatening wounds and discharged.
