AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A child psychiatrist fired from Austin State Hospital over allegations that he sexually abused boys getting treatment has been criminally indicted by a grand jury.

A Travis County grand jury on Thursday indicted Dr. Charles Fischer on charges of sexually abusing five boys. He was fired in November after state investigators said they confirmed some of the allegations that dated back several years.

Fischer's attorney, Antonio Cobos, did not immediately return a phone message Thursday. Fischer has previously denied the allegations.

The indictment charges Fischer with one count of sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault of a child, and two counts of indecency with a child by contact.

Fischer had worked since 1990 at Austin State Hospital, most recently in a supervisory role at the Child-Adolescent Psychiatric Services Unit.
