DALLAS (AP) — The University of Texas System says it found no irregularities by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for the way it obtained a $20 million state grant.
UT System Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa said in a statement Thursday that a review of the grant showed "no deliberate attempt by anyone" to circumvent M.D. Anderson's procedures. He also said the inquiry found no conflicts of interest.
The grant funds were given to Rice University and M.D. Anderson by the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas for a so-called incubator project.
The institute came under fire when Nobel Laureate Alfred Gilman announced his resignation as chief science officer and was critical of the grant being considered a commercial project that wasn't subject to scientific review.
M.D. Anderson has since resubmitted its application.
