SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas (AP) — Authorities believe the death of a 26-year-old Houston man at a packed Texas Gulf Coast beach party and the wounding of two others was the result of a drive-by shooting.
Brazoria County Sheriff Charles Wagner said Monday no arrests have been made in the weekend shooting, which took place at Surfside Beach, located about 65 miles south of Houston.
The shooting around 8:30 p.m. Saturday killed Derrick Milam, who was hit in the neck by a bullet. Two others, a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old, were injured.
Up to 20,000 people had apparently gathered at the beach after word of the unauthorized party spread on social media.
Wagner said authorities have previously dealt with large beach crowds, but this was the first time violence had occurred.
