SAN ANTONIO -- There were more than 73 babies clustered into a La Quinta on Horizon Hill Saturday morning. There were also excited parents, siblings, organizers and a variety of Earth-friendly, parenting-oriented local businesses clamoring for attention, but in a cuddly sort of way. They were all gathered for The Great Cloth Diaper Change World Record Event!

The idea was that at the same time across the globe thousands of little bottoms were gently lifted into the air and changed. No disposables here, though. It was to set a record "for the earth-friendly Guinness World Record for most cloth diapers ever changed simultaneously."

Organizers said 400 sites in 21 countries were doing the same thing at the same time. They speculated that meant about 10,000 diaper changes. Not one of those dirty diapers was headed to the landfill. Whew! That's the point of the event, after all.

San Antonio-based Rockin' Green organized the event. Also present were: San Antonio Natural Parenting, the Integrative Healing Institute, San Antonio Birth Doulas, Natural Beginnings, Go-,Baby,Go, and others, all in support of families. There was a lot of connecting as parents compared birth dates and birth weights, and exchanged tips and experiences in an informal setting.

But in the end, those 73 babies were changed, and the world became a better place.
