PHOTOS: Queen's coronation graces Majestic Theatre stage

The Court of the Wondrous Metropolis took its place upon the stage of the Majestic Theatre Wednesday night, April 25, for the Coronation of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo. Sumptuously beaded gowns glistened as 21 new duchesses made their way down the ramp. It took poise and practice to carry it all off given the weight of the heavily beaded gowns and the substantial crowns. Each duchess does a full court bow in front of the cheering audience. Their faces inches from the floor, they turn their bejeweled heads to face their fans. It is quite a marvelous display.
If anything at all could steal the show - no, it's not possible - it would be the tiny Royal Ramp Pages. These little girls dressed in saffron yellow frocks lined both sides of the royal ramp. They must have been strictly coached not to touch the gowns as the duchesses passed, but several just could not resist an impish snatch of a touch. All in good fun, though. After all, the newly crowned Queen of the Court of the Wondrous Metropolis pledges to rule in mirth and merriment. That's the Fiesta tradition!
