SAPD: Carjacking suspect hides from police in east-side home

Carjacking leads to chase and arrests

SAN ANTONIO -- Police believe two 15-year-old boys may be connected to a carjacking turned standoff.

One of the suspects was holding himself up in an east-side home in the 4000 block of Sunrise Creek Friday morning. He was later taken into custody before 6:30 a.m.

The San Antonio Police Department said the standoff stemmed from a carjacking in the 8000 block of Midcrown Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. Investigators said a business owner was robbed of his car at gunpoint.

Kirby Police saw a speeding car matching that description almost two hours later. SAPD says KPD chased the vehicle. The suspects crashed in the 5700 block of Sun Canyon. They ran away from the car.

Officers caught up with one of the teen suspects on Sunrise Creek. The other boy was hiding inside of a home where a 71-year-old elderly bedridden hospice patient lives. She was unharmed and was never a hostage.

A man in his late 30s slept through the entire standoff. He was not harmed.

Police caught the teen hiding behind a bathroom door.

KENS 5 spoke with one of the woman's daughters. Her daughter said their mother had no connection to the suspect. Her, however, granddaughters did.

Criminal charges are still pending.
