SAPD: Man accused of elbowing officer in the face, causing injury

SAN ANTONIO - Police said a man was arrested and accused of assaulting an officer on the northwest side early Wednesday morning.

San Antonio Police Department officers were dispatched to West Laurel and North Colorado streets around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance or fight in the area.

Employees at an area bar pointed out the "individuals who had been causing problems" and threatening staff members, according to a police report.

SAPD said police ordered Nicholas Aranda to stop causing the disturbance, and Aranda then tried to flee the scene on his bike.

Police said an officer identified as Officer Christensen grabbed Aranda to detain him, and Aranda hit Christensen in the face with his elbow, causing a laceration.

Officer Christensen was taken to Metropolitan Hospital by emergency medical crews.

Aranda was reportedly treated for minor injuries and is now charged with assault of a public servant.
