SAPD: 15-year-old girl fatally shot by child playing with gun

Teen killed by gunfire at a south-side home

SAN ANTONIO - A 15-year-old girl was killed after she was shot in the chest at a south-side home Tuesday afternoon.

The incident reportedly happened just before 4 p.m. in the 3100 block of Mission Gate.

The victim, Caroline Guzman, was found laying upstairs in her home with a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency crews performed CPR at the scene but were not able to resuscitate the victim. She was transported to University Hospital via AirLIFE, however, she was later pronounced dead.

At the time of the incident, Guzman, a 12-year-old, and a toddler were at home. Guzman's parents were reportedly not home at the time.

Police were originally told by a minor in the house that they were outside in the front yard when they heard a gunshot that was possibly coming from a grass field near the home.

The minor said Guzman ran inside and he put away a lawn mower. The minor then told police he found Guzman upstairs unconscious.

Police later questioned the minor with his parent present. He told police the location of a handgun after saying that he was playing with a bullet and it went off.

There have been no arrests made.
