Bexar County entomologists say August is when scorpions are found more throughout the house.
These stinging creatures usually lay in dark areas like under rocks and in cracks and only show up at night to avoid the heat.
Molly Keck of the Agrilife Extension System says that scorpions are not the killers people think they are.
"They're venomous, their sting will hurt," says Keck. "There's venom that they insert and that’s what hurts so bad. But they're not poisonous in the sense that they're going to kill you."
Regular pesticides will kill scorpions, so if you regularly kill for bugs this should get rid of them.
Keck says that scorpions aren’t aggressive and don't actively seek you out to sting you. People usually get stung when they step on them and don't even know it until they feel the pain.
Keck said, "It's going to feel 10 times worse than a wasp sting. It's a really painful wasp sting. But it’s that same kind of sensation."
Scorpions are arachnids and related to crustaceans such as shrimp.
Keck says the best way to find scorpions is to go out at night with a black light. If these creatures aren’t creepy enough, scorpions will glow from proteins in their exoskeleton.
