Richter scale registers 3.1 magnitude earthquake in Hallettsville

HALLETTSVILLE -- The US Geological Survey confirmed a 3.1 magnitude earthquake Thursday.

The USGS reports the quake happened at 2:30 p.m.

Eyewitness News received multiple Facebook messages from viewers inquiring about a "tremor" or "explosion" that happened in the afternoon.

The Lavaca County Sheriff said they have no reports of injuries or structure damage at this time.

This is the third reported quake this year in South Texas. A 3.0 magnitude earthquake hit Karnes County on January 30. On January 16, a 2.8 earthquake was felt in Jourdanton, but did not register with the USGS until five days later.
