Bexar County voter registration deadline Tuesday

Tuesday is the last day to register to vote

SAN ANTONIO - The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11. Bexar County election officials say they are seeing lots of people come in to register to vote over the past few days.

They kept the election department open over the weekend and are extending their hours to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday to accommodate for people who are registering to vote. They say that from last presidential election to this one they've seen an additional 100,000 people register to vote in the county, bringing the total number of voters here to 1,032,000 voters.

They say there's always a greater interest in elections during presidential election cycles.

"It's a higher interest and this one because it's a non-incumbent. It's technically a new president, so there's just a lot of interest around this one," said Jacque Callanen, a Bexar County elections administrator.

Local activists made a last minute push in their get out the vote efforts.

"We're looking at issues like housing, equality, we're looking at wages, we're looking at cost of living, we're looking at immigration, women's rights this year, and we need everyone to be heard. Everyone deserves to be counted. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard," said Maximo Anguiano, a local activist.
