Officer fatally shoots man during foot chase in far-west S.A.

The San Antonio Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the city's far-west side.

The call came in around 2:00 to the 8200 block of Marbach Road, near John Jay High School.

Police said they were doing surveillance work on vehicle burglaries when they pulled over a suspicious looking car on Marbach Road. Police said there were three people inside of the car. The driver got out of the car and ran across the street to John Jay High School.

Police said an undercover officer chased him in his unmarked car and boxed him in at the school. The suspect jumped on the officer's car and hopped a fence, according to police.

As the man was was making his way over the fence, police said a hand-gun fell to the ground from his waistband. The undercover officer told him to stop, but the suspect continued to reach for it. Police said the officer fired three shots and the suspect was hit in the hand and chest.

Officers said they are still working to identify the man who was killed. Police said the two other people that were in the car are not cooperating with police. No other officers were injured.

John Jay High School was not placed on lockdown but an NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzales said the area is blocked off due to police activity. Two buses of students returning from a field trip have been taken to Mary Hull Elementary School, where parents can pick them up.

Mary Hull Elementary is located at 7320 Remuda.
