Residents in the Texas panhandle are being vigilant after a mountain lion went on the attack.

The lion reportedly preyed on goats in the Carson County area, and authorities say its unlikely it will attack humans.

Nevertheless, officials are reminding folks to be cautious if they do come across the wild animal.

"Don't turn your back on them. You don't bend over. You raise your hands up, make yourself look as large as possible. And, you don't run, because he's going to outrun you and you're going to lose that race," says Carson County sheriff, Tam Terry.

Officials are also urging pet owners to be careful. They are telling residents not to leave dogs tied up where they could easily fall victim to the mountain lion.
