Mortar shell found near NW-side home, bomb squad gives 'all clear'

SAN ANTONIO -  A bomb squad from the San Antonio Police Department responded to a home in northwest San Antonio for reports of a mortar shell found near a residence's garage Wednesday.

The device was found near the driveway of a home in the 7600 block of Hummingbird Hill Lane around 11:30 a.m., according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Crews were on scene investigating whether the device was a "live round," but gave the "all clear" around 1 p.m.

The device reportedly turned out to be a "practice mortar" that was not live.
