Massive donations for '40 Cans for Lent' food drive

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of San Antonio gave Eyewitness News a look at the generous food donations they have collected since Ash Wednesday.

The food was donated to their "40 Cans for Lent" program. The program asked people and businesses to donate a can of food for every day of Lent. Their hope was to restock their food pantry which helps feed the needy, especially children in the summer months.

"The drive has been an overwhelming success," said Patty Vela, the Director of Mission Advancement. "Last year we collected 30 thousand pounds and at last count we've collected 40."

There is still time to donate to the drive. It wraps up on April 5th, Easter Sunday at the Guadalupe Community Center.
