Man ID'd in case of body found in trunk of car

Man found dead in trunk identified

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department identified the body of a man found in the trunk of a car in a Walmart parking lot as 63-year-old Jerry Gonzaba.

As KENS 5 reported, police found the body of a 63-year-old man in the trunk of a Mercedes around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the 8538 I-35 South Walmart location.

A spokesperson for SAPD said the man was on federal probation. The discovery was made when Gonzaba didn't check in with his probation officer and authorities pinged his ankle monitor.

Gonzaba was on probation for a federal bank fraud and producing counterfeit devices case, according to public records.

He has about a dozen theft cases in Bexar County Court and Bexar County State District Court.

The probation officer called SAPD after arriving at the parking lot. Police then called the San Antonio Fire Department to open the trunk of the vehicle and found Gonzaba's body.

Police said they are investigating this case as a murder.
