Volunteers prepare, serve Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner

SAN ANTONIO -- Many Alamo City residents say Thanksgiving brings out the best in the community, and one of the best holiday traditions is the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner.

This is the dinner's 37th year. It is open to everyone and brings people together from across the city.

The dinner is expected to feed more than 20,000 people.

Food will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner's website, the food prepared is as follows:

  • Turkey: 9,400 lbs.
  • Stuffing: 6,250 lbs.
  • Green Beans: 6,250 lbs.
  • Gravy: 650 lbs.
  • Yams: 4,688 lbs.
  • Cranberry Sauce: 4,688 lbs.
  • Bread: 25,000 dinner rolls
  • Pumpkin Pies: 3,000 pies
