Violent carjacking ends in deadly crash on Loop 410

Carjacking and chase has a deadly end.

SAN ANTONIO-A brutal carjacking was the starting point for a deadly crash that shut down 410 East at Summit Parkway for three and half hours, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

McManus said four suspects tore the side mirror off of a victim's car at an apartment complex near Westfield and Westward before 2:30 am. The group beat the man, ran him over with his car and drove away.

Officers were able to track the stolen vehicle through its LoJack system. As SAPD closed in on the four suspects, the stolen car barreled onto 410.

McManus said an unsuspecting couple hit the side of the stolen car. The blow killed the man driving the stolen vehicle. His three passengers were rescued and taken to Methodist Hospital with injuries they are expected to overcome.

The husband and wife who hit the car jacking suspects were taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The car jacking victim's condition was unavailable.

Meantime, the deadly crashed closed all the lanes of 410 East until 6 am.

Criminal charges are pending against the three suspects who survived the crash. The deceased suspect's name has not been released.
