Three students, two others injured in Uvalde school bus crash

Five people, including three students, were injured in an accident involving a school bus Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. on Highway 90 west of Uvalde when a bus carrying area middle school and high school students was rear-ended by a pickup truck.

The students on the bus were from Flores Middle School, Morales Junior High School and Uvalde High School, said Uvalde CISD spokesperson Anne Marie Espinoza.

Three of the students on the bus were transported from the scene to be treated for minor injuries, said Espinoza. A campus nurse was also on scene to evaluate and treat all of the students.

According to the Uvalde County Sheriff's Office, two individuals from the pickup truck were flown by MedAir to San Antonio to be treated. It was not immediately clear what condition they were in.

The highway was shut down while first responders worked the scene. Deputies were reporting that it was reopened around 9:30 a.m.

According to an initial investigation of the crash, the bus driver was not at fault.
