Police make arrest in body in trunk case

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police Department announced the arrest of the alleged killer of Jerry Gonzaba in a Facebook Live post Tuesday afternoon.

The 63-year-old’s body was found in the trunk of a Mercedes on Sept. 1 at the 8538 I-35 South Walmart location. According to SAPD, he was on federal probation and the discovery was made when Gonzaba didn't check in with his probation officer and authorities pinged his ankle monitor.

According to SAPD, the homicide unit found enough probable cause for an arrest warrant for Richard Escobar.

Units arrested Escobar Tuesday afternoon near South Zarzamora Street and Highway 90 on the city’s southwest side.

Escobar was apprehended and taken to police headquarters.
