SAN ANTONIO - Tommy Garcia, the longtime principal of William Howard Taft High School, passed away Tuesday, according to a tweet by Northside Independent School District Superintendent Brian Woods.
Many current and former students, faculty and other NISD schools have begun to post condolences on social media asking for prayers and strength for the school and the Garcia family.
"He was an amazing person who installed such awesome values in the students he loved," Victor Daniel Carreon Ramirez said in a Facebook post.
According to a biography on an archived version of the Taft website, Mr. Garcia started in 2004 becoming the third principal for the school. Prior to his arrival at Taft, Mr. Garcia served as the principal at South San Antonio High School West Campus from 1998 to 2000 and then moved to South San Antonio High School until 2004.
Mr. Garcia graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University where he also received his Master of Education degree, according to an archived biography page.
No other information has been released.
