Man killed after seven-hour standoff with SAPD

SAN ANTONIO – A man is dead Sunday morning after a seven-hour standoff with the San Antonio Police Department.

According to Chief William McManus SAPD received a call from a woman Saturday night around 10:30 on the city's northwest side.

She told SAPD that she arrived at her home on the 5800 block Shadow Glen to find her ex-boyfriend, 24-year old Andrew Moreno, had broken into her apartment.

“When she walked in, he fired a round past her head, then put the gun to her head,” said Chief McManus. “She was able to escape. She called us. SAPD arrived on scene. ‘

When SAPD arrived on scene they tried to negotiate with Moreno for seven hours.

According to SAPD, Moreno fired a couple of rounds while inside the home.

Early Sunday morning when Moreno came out of the building he was pointing a gun at police. Three officers fired a single shot each at him.

Moreno died on scene and Chief McManus said he did have a criminal history.

“Everyone is trained in crisis prevention,” Chief McManus said. “They negotiated with him for seven hours trying to get him out without harm.  Unfortunately, it ended as it did.”

The woman is shaken up according to the Chief, but she is okay.

No officers were injured and the three officers involved have been placed on administrative duty while the incident is under investigation.
