Seguin Police passing out 'Cop Cards' to children

Seguin Police are reaching out to kids this summer by passing out Cop Cards, similar to baseball cards.

SEGUIN, Texas - It's a different type of approach. Seguin Police are reaching out to kids this summer by passing out Cop Cards.

One Seguin Police officer said he hopes it will engage the local children.

The Cop Cards are similar to baseball cards and each police officer and K-9 on the force has their own card with a photo on the front and information about them.

It will have their name, rank experience interest and a personalized message from the officer.

Kids 12-years-old and younger are eligible for a great prize.

If a child brings in 30 cards they will be given their choice of an SPD kids t-shirt or challenge coin.

"It's important in building relations early with kids. With this Cop Card program, having their first interaction with a police officer being positive and fun is invaluable." Chief Kevin Kelso of the Seguin Police Department said.

You'll start seeing these cards in July.
