SAPD: Teen arrested for shooting at two girls outside elementary school

A 17-year-old boy accused of shooting at two girls behind an elementary school was arrested Wednesday evening. The shooting occurred Monday night.

SAN ANTONIO - Ezequiel Vela shot at two teenage girls outside of an elementary school Monday night, according to San Antonio Police. He was arrested Wednesday for the incident.

An arrest warrant said the 17-year-old opened fire on the girls on the grounds of Burke Elementary School. The teens stopped on the campus to smoke a police report said.

Investigators said when they got out of a vehicle to walk, Vela opened fire. The arrest document said he struck a 16-year-old girl in the back. Police said he tried to shoot her friend who is also 16.

According to the victim, Vela's pistol failed.

The shooting victim is recovering at University Hospital. 

Vela was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
