SAPD: Second east-side shooting Sunday possibly retaliation

SAN ANTONIO - Multiple gun shots rang out Sunday morning on the city’s east side in what San Antonio police believe could have been a retaliation shooting to an incident that happened overnight.

Around 7 a.m. Sunday, one person was shot in the foot outside of Hays Food Mart in the 800 block of North New Braunfels Avenue. He was transported to the hospital as priority two.

The victim’s car and the convenient store were also hit by several bullets.

Around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, two Hispanic males were also shot on the east side in the 4000 block of Sunrise Creek Drive.

On Thursday, District 2 Councilman William Cruz Shaw commented on the high crime rates on the city's east side.

"District 2 will receive 2 more SAFFE officers to work with our community and to develop relationships with our citizens. SAPD’s new Community Engagement Program will proactively establish contact with our residents, connect high-risk group members and individuals with reentry services while working with partners to ensure accountability, conduct community events to build community cohesion and police-community relationships, identify criminal groups and individuals driving violence, and respond to victims of serious violence and their families. We are eager to see the committee that will oversee this community engagement program as well. This is a step in the right direction toward transparency and creating understanding between our police department and our citizens."
