One dead in shooting on northeast side

SAN ANTONIO - One man is dead after a shooting on the city’s northeast side.

San Antonio Police officers initially responded to a report of shots fired around 9 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of FM 78 and Rittiman Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found a red Mercedes in the street. The driver was sitting in the front seat, wounded and with a weapon in his lap.

Prior to the shooting, the Mercedes was stopped behind another car. The passenger of the second vehicle stepped out of the car and fired several shots into the Mercedes. The driver was struck at least twice.

The shooter ran back to their vehicle, which then fled the scene, heading southbound on Foster Road. Police are now looking for that vehicle, which they describe as a dark sedan.

Police said they believe the shooter is an African-American male in his 20s wearing a dark hoodie.

Emergency crews were called to the scene to assist the victim, who passed shortly after their arrival. The victim has yet to be identified.

Police are unsure if the shooting is related to a prior incident. A motive remains unknown.
