Elderly man shoots, kills would-be intruder

SAN ANTONIO -- A robbery suspect that died after being shot by an elderly homeowner Thursday, has been identified.

Troy Wilson, 42, was shot by the elderly homeowner while he was attempting to break down the man's front door.

The shooting was reported just before 10 a.m. in the 9700 block of Autumn Dew, near Braun Road and Loop 1604.

According to San Antonio Police, an elderly couple was inside of their home when the suspect broke the door handle off the front door.

SAPD expanded the crime scene around 11 a.m., as detectives processed a blue sedan found a block away, parked in the driveway of a nearby home.

 
Investigators eventually had the vehicle towed from the scene.
 
A background check of the homeowner reveals he is 79 years old, has an extensive Army background and has written more than a dozen military-themed novels.
 
The homeowner's weapon was recovered at the scene and he is not expected to face any charges, an SAPD spokesman confirmed.
