SAPD: Man arrested in robbery dies hours later at hospital

SAN ANTONIO -- A 26-year-old man died after being arrested attempting to escape a botched robbery, police said.

The man was arrested after being caught attempting to break into a home and steal a car in 6400 block of Enrique Barrera Parkway on the city's west side. The homeowner witnessed the man in the act and was able to restrain him until police arrived.

According to police, the suspect was transported to the Magistrate's Office where he began to have medical issues. He was transported to University Baptist Hospital where he passed away around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The Medical examiner has not released the cause of death. The identity of the man has not been released until the next of kin has been notified.
