SAFD EMS recognized for excellence

San Antonio – San Antonio Fire Department EMS personnel were recently honored with two very prestigious awards.

Department leaders celebrated the honors during a special event Tuesday afternoon at Public Safety Headquarters.

For the third consecutive year, SAFD achieved the American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Plus Level Recognition Award.

The award, which is represents the highest level of recognition in this area, recognizes excellence in quality of care for patients who suffer the most severe heart attacks.

The “plus” distinction recognizes departments that are able to acquire a 12-lead EKG within 10 minutes of first medical contact with the patient.

Additionally, SAFD Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) was recently honored as the recipient of the State of Texas Health and Human Services ‘Commissioners Award of Excellence.’

The Award of Excellence recognizes DFPS (Department of Family and Protective Services) employees and community partners who have gone to extraordinary lengths to protect and serve the unprotected.

In the history of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, SAFD MIH is the first outside agency to receive the Commissioners (H.L. Whitman Jr.) award.
