Rip Current threat imminent with TS Cindy; South Padre warns against swimming

CORPUS CHRISTI-- Although Tropical Storm Cindy was predicted to the northeast of Corpus Christi, the National Weather Service was still predicting hazardous conditions to strike Padre Island National Seashore.

Because of these risks, a Rip Current, Coastal Flood Advisory and Small Craft Advisory were in effect from 2 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Strong rip currents were expected along the Gulf-facing beaches. The rip current threat was expected late tonight through early Wednesday and impacts included waves running to dunes were expected to make beach driving conditions dangerous and swimming conditions life-threatening.

In a Facebook Post Monday, Padre Island National Seashore first warned beachgoers against the hazardous conditions, stating:  Please DO NOT SWIM during a rip current event!
