SAN ANTONIO – A police chase involving civilian gunfire and two stolen vehicles ended in a crash on the city’s west side Wednesday morning.

Officers received a suspicious persons call around 8:00 a.m. at Northwest 34th Street.

Police approached the suspect while he was asleep inside a stolen vehicle where they saw a gun resting on his lap.

The man fled on foot shortly after, hopping fences and running through several yards. One homeowner fired at him after he ran across their property.

According to police, the suspect stole a second vehicle continuing the chase that later ended on North Zarzamora Street and Culebra Road after he tried to ram an officer’s vehicle.

The officer, who was pinned hours earlier for 30 years of service, wrestled the suspect from the truck.

The man was sent to jail after San Antonio police surrounded him. He is facing several charges.

The senior police officer was sent to the hospital for minor injuries.
