SAN ANTONIO - The Million Summer Meals for Kids is a partnership between KENS 5 and the San Antonio Food Bank. We want to help feed children this summer and make sure no child goes without a meal.
It could be harder to meet this goal in the summer because kids are out of school, parents have to figure out how to pay for childcare and electric bills are higher due to air conditioning.
The last thing families need is to worry about is how they'll feed their kids. That's where the San Antonio community comes in.
As parents picked their children up from the last day of school at Pre-K 4-S.A. Thursday afternoon, the San Antonio Food Bank was there to hand them a sack from H-E-B full of fresh vegetables and fruits.
The Express Lube Golden Oil drop was on hand to help parents with the sacks of goodies. Music and a bubble machine also added to the festive atmosphere for the kickoff of the program.
The program is called Million Summer Meals for Kids, but we aren’t aiming for just one million meals. That was our goal the first year when we hit more than two million. KENS 5 topped five million the second year and eight million in 2016.
In 2017, were bumping the goal up to nine million meals.
