NBPD to honor retired K-9 for entire week following death

NEW BRAUNFELS-- The New Braunfels Police Department was mourning the death of one of their own in retired K-9 'Hondo.'

According to a post gaining traction on the NBPD Facebook Page Monday, Hondo died peacefully Friday of natural causes.

Hondo served alongside Detective Chris Scott for six years on the force. Following his retirement, he lived with the Scott family. He was 12 when he died.

According to the post, Hondo was laid to rest at the Scott family ranch in Medina County.

To pay homage to Hondo's service and to mourn his death, the entire police department will wear a black band over their badge until the end of the week, June 16.

RIP Hondo.
