Mom charged in drunken crash that killed daughter, 11

Mother charged with intoxicated manslaughter

SAN ANTONIO -- An 11-year-old girl is dead and her mother is charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

It was a horrific scene, a car t-boned by a pickup truck at the corner of Wurzbach and Wetmore during rush hour on Tuesday.

“The officers mentioned that it was catastrophic and it was just a scene that no one should ever have to see,” Sandra Pickell said.

Charity Siler, 11, was sitting in the passenger seat of the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene

Her mother, 39-year-old Julie Marie Siler is being charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

A man who says he's Charity's father, set up this Gofundme page to help with her burial expenses.

The mother who was also injured was transported to SAMMC and later booked. Her bond was set at $50,000.

“From the information that we have she failed to yield to a truck that was coming onto the lane on the right-hand side she failed to yield and therefore caused the accident and she was under the influence of alcohol,” Pickell said.

It's a sad reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving.

“Any amount of alcohol is too much to be driving and especially when a child is in the vehicle,” she said.
