Don't be alarmed: Expect simulated gunfire from active shooter training at JBSA-Lackland

Don't be alarmed if you live in the area.

SAN ANTONIO – If you live in the area around Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland don’t be alarmed when you hear loud sounds of gunshots.

On Sunday, the base will be holding an active shooter training and the sounds will be simulated gunfire. The exercise will be comprised of several active shooter scenarios and geared toward maintaining proficiency in the event of a real-world situation.

"Your hometown Air Guard team - the 149th Lone Star Gunfighters - is committed to providing exceptional training to our full-time and part-time force," said Col. Timothy J. Madden, commander of the 149th Fighter Wing. "This exercise helps ensure our members are ready to effectively serve our state and nation and to remain focused on our vision of uncompromised excellence and mission dominance."

The exercise will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and is being conducted by the 149th Security Forces Squadron. The Air Force requires this training to be done twice a year.
