Airmen honored with Fiesta celebration

Fiesta celebration at JBSA AFB!

SAN ANTONIO - Day two of Fiesta began early on Friday with the Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland Military Parade. Hundreds of Airmen ended seven weeks of basic training with a their military march in front of friends, family, military commanders and Fiesta royalty.

"These are the people that are providing services 365 days a year to provide security so that we're able to do these types of things like Fiesta," Fiesta S.A. Commission Erwin J. De Luna said.

Marches for Air Force Basic Training graduates happen weekly at JBSA - Lackland.  The 37th Training Wing trains nearly 87,000 airmen and international students every year, but this week's march had a different flair.

"We're so fortunate to have royalty, the Fiesta Commission and San Antonio come out to celebrate with these airmen," Brigadier General Heather Pringle said. "We are serving San Antonio, and we're serving our nation."

Now that basic training is over, airmen from this class will have a chance to enjoy the city and the Fiesta festivities. Many of these recent grads are not from San Antonio, and they are looking forward to spending time with family and friends.

"The last 7 1/2 weeks have been focused on the parade," Airman First Class Kenneth Inman said. "It wasn't until recently, they let us know that it was a Fiesta parade and that there is a bunch of stuff going downtown.  I'm definitely looking forward to spending time together to see what San Antonio is all about."
