Ambush victim stable after being shot outside S.A. club: owner talks safety

Monday around 2:30 a.m., San Antonio police were called to the Far West Event Center on Pleasanton road, near Southwest military drive.

SAN ANTONIO - A gunman is still on the run after he ambushed a man outside of a south-side nightclub.

Monday around 2:30 a.m., San Antonio police were called to the Far West Event Center on Pleasanton road, near Southwest military drive.

Police said a man was walking outside the parking lot with a friend, when a gray, Chevy Silverado pulled over next to them.

The club's owner, Rudy Lopez, who spoke with the victim's friend said they did not recognize the driver.

"Speaking to him briefly, he told me the truck approached him, asked him if he was a certain person and he's like no, we don't know you. Whatever, just leave. And then the shot went off," Lopez said.

The victim was shot in the head and rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center. Lopez said the victim and his friend were at the club but there was no argument or fight that would have led to the shooting.

Lopez also checked his security cameras inside the club and said the two men were enjoying themselves at the bar.

"This young man in his early 20's, he has his whole life ahead of him. Luckily right now and thank God he's in a stable condition. We want to make sure that the family knows that our prayers are with them," Lopez said.

Lopez said he wants patrons of the bar to also, know that their safety is a priority. He said there has been misinformation being shared that the shooting happened inside his club but the incident occurred at the far end of the parking lot near the street.

Lopez said he has fought hard to improve the reputation of the club's location. A different owner operated a club called Noche Caliente before Lopez took over.

"That's one of the most important things, that when people come to our club, the security is at the highest level it can be. We've maintained that for the last three years and we will continue to maintain. If anything, it'll get better," Lopez said. "We have never had a police incident to this extent. Never."
