Girls softball team honors SAPD officers in journey to World Series

A San Antonio girls softball team is honoring SAPD in their World Series bid.

SAN ANTONIO - Some local little league teammates are doing big things on the diamond: They're heading to the World Series championship in Laredo.

For the first time ever, the girls 8U team from the Normoyle Pony League in south San Antonio is headed to the World Series.

The girls are also paying tribute to San Antonio Police Department officers Miguel Moreno and Julio Cavazos. As KENS 5 reported, Moreno was shot and killed in an incident near San Antonio College Thursday. Cavazos is recovering after he was shot during the same incident.

The team went undefeated in championship qualifiers over the weekend.

Each team member is wearing the badge numbers of both officers on their cheeks. They are also fundraising to help cover the $5,000 it costs for the trip.

To donate, visit the team's GoFundMe page.
