SAN ANTONIO - The Dallas Cowboy game against the Arizona Cardinals sparked a mix of emotions among local fans on Monday night as players and owner Jerry Jones took a knee before the national anthem.
The Dallas Cowboys stood during the National Anthem with their arms linked.
"I was totally embarrassed to be an American when I saw that to be honest with you," said Bob who didn’t want to share his last name.
While some are opposed to the protest others call it freedom of speech.
"As Americans I think we have the right to celebrate and express our patriotism any way that we choose," Joseph Nazaroff said.
NFL players began to sit, kneel or link arms over the weekend during the star spangled banner to protest President Trump’s remarks during a rally on Friday.
"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners when somebody disrespect our flag to say get the SOB off the field right now," Trump said.
some fans say they want to keep politics out of the game.
“If they want to protest they can do it on their own time not on the clock, not in front of us,” Bob said.
But, some fans disagree they say it’s the perfect platform to take a stance on important issues.
“These professional athletes have the platform and exposure, I think it’s ideal,” Nazaroff said.
