KENS 5 rolls up sleeves for 'Make A Difference Day'

KENS 5 participated in Make A Difference Day 2017, helping build bikes for local students.

SAN ANTONIO - In case you did not know, Saturday, Oct. 28 is 'Make A Difference Day.' The KENS 5 team rolled up its sleeves and got to work, trying to make San Antonio a little bit better. The team helped out at Inner City Development, which is a nonprofit organization in the west side of San Antonio.

The tasks were to install a privacy fence, pave a walkway and the most important was to put together bikes for the kids who volunteer so many hours at the organization. The bikes are more than just transportation.

"A lot of children in this area sometimes their whole world is just within these few blocks. Well, this will expand those blocks. We are also hoping these will get kids to and from school, a lot of the students are challenged with attendance at school," Inner City Development Executive Director Patti Radle said.

Samantha Estrada is a mother of four, and one of her kids was able to ride off in a new bike. She said she's thankful for the Inner City group, which helps children, families and the homeless.

"Every hour, every day, once they open the door, they are making a difference," she said.

Since 1992, volunteers and communities have come together on Make A Difference Day with a single purpose: to improve the lives of others. Make A Difference Day is made possible by you and the people of TEGNA with support from Arby's Foundation and Points of Light.
