HILL COUNTRY – Around 800 pounds of flour, 500 pounds of sugar and 200 pounds of candy will eventually be packed into, on and around the JW Marriot San Antonio Hill Country's gingerbread mansion.
"We definitely have a lot of pride in our work, so we're very glad to finalize it and see the final results," said Executive Pastry Chef Marcos Gonzalez.
The structure itself is already built, but there's still more work to be done. Gonzalez's team will be working on the gingerbread house until Thanksgiving.
"I feel like this basically showcases what we can do as a collective group," said baker Chanel Booker.
She piped icing 'glue' around the house's chocolate roof where she later plans to attach fondant icicles.
"It's really come a long way," she said.
While the total build will take a month to complete, the job is worth it, said Gonzalez.
"We're very passionate about what we do so we all take our creativity and the staff puts in their work and as a team we accomplish that," he said.
