Local café raising money in response to Det. Marconi's death

SAN ANTONIO -- For the past 3 weeks, the Tip Top Café, located at 2814 Fredericksburg Road has been raising money for families of fallen law-enforcement.

The day after its fundraiser was expected to wrap up, tragedy struck San Antonio.

SAPD Detective Benjamin Marconi, 50, was the officer who was killed during a traffic stop on Sunday.

So now, Tip Top is keeping the fundraiser going in his honor for a few more weeks.

The café is donating a portion of the sales to the 100 Club of San Antonio if you buy their made-from-scratch pies, onion rings or chicken fired steaks.

If you can’t make it to lunch today, the fundraiser is being extended through Dec. 8 in honor of Detective Marconi.

KENS 5 also spoke to Richard Miller at the 100 Club of San Antonio and Miller said their goal is to present a check to Detective Marconi's family within 24 hours.

Miller said they’ve been in touch with SAPD to help provide Marconi's family with travel and lodging expenses and to help relieve any financial pressure from his death.

You can donate directly to their website at http://www.100clubsa.org/Donate. Any donation to this website is a general donation.

KENS 5 has noticed at least one “GoFundMe” page pop up since Sunday. Miller confirmed it is not theirs and also cautioned about donating to unverified fundraising pages.
