High-speed chase involving wrong-way driver ends in shooting

The high-speed chase led to deputies firing their guns.

SAN ANTONIO - What initially was going to be a routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase that ended in gunfire.

Police in Atascosa County initially tried to stop a vehicle for an 'equipment violation'.

The vehicle reportedly refused to stop and made a run for it heading into Bexar County.

At one point the suspects began driving the wrong way in the 16800 block of Highway 281 South, which is between Loop 1604 and Loop 410 on the south side.

DPS troopers joined the effort and said they were forced to open fire on the vehicle.

The driver and passenger suffered gunshot wounds.

Both were transported to University Hospital where their conditions are unknown.
