SAN ANTONIO - A 10-year-old girl was shot and killed on the city's north side Thanksgiving morning, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Originally the victim was identified as 11 years old but SAPD has now identified her as 10-year-old Deliah Hernandez.
In a video on the SAPD Facebook page, Chief McManus said a bullet most likely meant for a teen boy ended up killing his little sister at a home in the 100 block of Harwood Drive.
"We do believe it's gang-related, associated directly with the brother," McManus said.
The child was said to be in bed watching television when she was shot in the chest.
Five other people were in the home when 'multiple rounds' went into the home from outside. No one else was injured.
The child was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:36 am.
"Any day is bad but Thanksgiving makes it worse. There will be a special place for this person when he goes to the next life. This is just unforgivable," McManus said.
The child's teen brother is being interviewed by police.
