SAN ANTONIO - A six-year-old girl was struck by a truck attempting to board the school bus Monday morning.
The incident took place in the 4700 Block of East Houston Street on the city's east side.
According to police on the scene, the girl was struck crossing the street trying to board the school bus. She is a student at the School of Excellence in Education, San Antonio.
The girl's father was attempting to stop traffic from a turning lane so the girl could cross safely to the school bus. Police said as the girl went into the street she was struck by an oncoming truck. The driver said he did not see the girl until it was too late.
Investigators said the truck's driver saw the flashing yellow lights on the bus. He was reportedly switching lanes when the bus' flashing lights turned red. It's not clear if police will pursue a criminal case.
The girl was transported to the hospital by her mother and father. EMS was en route to the scene but was canceled before arriving. Police said the child's injuries were not life threatening.
Her school bus is not equipped with a camera for investigators to review.
