Gas station clerk shoots customer following argument, police say

A man is in critical condition after being shot by a gas station clerk on the east side Sunday night.

SAN ANTONIO - A man is in critical condition after being shot by a gas station clerk on the city's east side Saturday night.

Police said the man walked into the Shell gas station in the 1500 block of North New Braunfels Avenue late Saturday night and quickly got into an altercation with the clerk.

After the man went outside, the clerk checked to see if he was gone and claimed he saw the man reach into his pocket for something.

Under the impression that the man was reaching for a weapon, the clerk pulled his firearm and shot him twice.

The man suffered gunshot wounds in the stomach and leg.

The shooter waited with him until he was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he is still in critical condition.

Authorities said the clerk was detained for questioning and it’s unclear whether he will face charges.

Friends of the victim were present and were also questioned by police.
