Free women's self-defense classes offered this weekend

SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio woman was reportedly assaulted at Phil Hardberger Park Tuesday morning.

This weekend, there are two self-defense courses San Antonio women can attend free of charge.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, there’s a seminar from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the north side at Mission Ridge Range & Academy.

The class will cover ‘basic combatives’ that include striking, choking, bear hugs, and headlocks.

As for licensed carriers, they will be able to practice accessing their handguns in a timely manner.

As for the cost, the academy will accept dog and cat food as a form of payment in support of the Animal Defense League of Texas.

Email training@missionridgerange.com to RSVP.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, Councilman Manny Pelaez and Councilman John Courage will host a free self-defense workshop at Phil Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center starting at 1 p.m.

Participants will learn hands-on self-defense skills.

The Rape Crisis Center and SAPD will also be in attendance to talk about resources and support.
