“Today, Texas Democrats mourn the loss of our dear friend Choco Meza. There are no words to adequately describe the energy and sheer force that Choco Meza brought to every organizing effort. For decades, many of us have known that if Choco was on it, it was going to get done.

Texas families live with more opportunity today because of the service, advocacy, and fierce willpower of Choco Meza. Her impact on civil and voting rights, the Democratic Party, and the opportunity that the Latino community now experiences is immeasurable.

To Choco’s family and comunidad Texas Democrats extend our deepest condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We have lost a champion.

I'm sad to see my dear friend go, but I know that Heaven has a new organizer tonight and I'm sure she already has angels in formation.”
