Driver killed after slamming into pole north of downtown

A driver died overnight after slamming their pickup truck into a pole in front of Metropolitan Methodist Hospital just north of downtown.

SAN ANTONIO - A driver died overnight after slamming their pickup truck into a pole in front of Metropolitan Methodist Hospital just north of downtown.

The San Antonio Police Department said the driver was traveling at a high speed with a passenger in the car before slamming into the pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene located in the 1200 block of Brooklyn Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital where their condition is unknown.

Police said they believe alcohol and or drugs were involved in the incident.

Emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to retrieve the deceased victim from the vehicle.
